About Strive
Strive is an online math & coding school for kids (8β16). We help students start and commit to their math and coding journeys by making the subjects fun and exciting. We focus, above all else, on making the process of learning joyful.
- Our mission is to make education more joyful and meaningful. We teach coding, math and custom STEM courses to kids aged 8 to 16, and build the tools to support teachers to deliver engaging learning experiences.
- Weβre a remote-first company with teachers and employees from South Africa, Singapore, India, the USA, and the Philippines.
- Weβre a well-funded startup backed by YCombinator and early investors of Spotify and Facebook.
Role | Teaching kids math online
Many kids find math boring, many more are afraid, and even more think they are not "Math People". This self-doubt can trickle into many other subjects and careers if not addressed at an early age.
You will have the opportunity to transform kids' lives by fundamentally reframing their confidence and perception of math. You'll give these kids 1β2 joyful hours a week, where they will learn not only that they are smart enough for math, but that the process itself is incredibly fun.
Outside of teaching, you will have the opportunity to be involved with various aspects based on your interest:
- Creating content that empowers the full Strive team to teach math better, e.g. worksheets, visual manipulatives, and more
- Running math competitions
- Peer-reviewing class recordings and providing feedback
- Creating new curricula for different countries' math progressions
- Providing product feedback on our in-house platform we use to teach math: strivemath.org/worksheet
- Conducting parent-teacher sessions to share progress updates on the student's learning
Some more details
- Teach kids ages 8β16 math over Google Meet/Zoom.
- As a teacher, your role will be to guide the students to learn the math visually and understand the WHY behind various math concepts, in such a way that they can proudly say "I did this myself" or "we did this together". This will require a lot of patience, empathy, and the skill of coaching. You'll be problem solving and learning together along the way, and often our teachers learn a lot from their students.
